Cherry & Orange Jam

I like to try and make the most out of seasonal fruits. So it’s cherries again… :). It does not have any artificial flavors, lemon acts as natural preservative, so absolutely safe for kids 🙂

Ingredients
  • 1 Kilo Cherries , washed, cleaned and pitted
  • 1 Kilo Sugar
  • 3 Orange Juice
  • 2 Lemon Juice
  • 1 Tablespoon Orange rind
  • 1 Teaspoon Lemon Rind

  • 1 Kilo Cherries , washed, cleaned and pitted
  • 1 Kilo Sugar
  • 3 Orange Juice
  • 2 Lemon Juice
  • 1 Tablespoon Orange rind
  • 1 Teaspoon Lemon Rind
Instructions
  1. Mix Cherry , Sugar, Orange Juice, Lemon Juice, Rinds
  2. Cook for 5-10 minutes on high flame, when sugar dissolves, lower the flame
  3. Cook for almost 40-45 minutes or till jam is prepared , stir occasionally,
  4. how to determine if the jam is cooked: put a spoon in the freezer for 5 minutes, take it out and put a drop of jam. If you are able to make a clear line cutting across the jam , jam is ready
  5. Store in clean, dry bottles. Makes almost 4 bottles.

    OMG, you’ve just inspired me to do this with the mulberries growing wild in my backyard. Should work, no? Except that, unlike cherries, they’re on the tart side.

    Yes Lavanya …mulberries are yummmmmm and make an awesome filling for Cakes , tarts …
